Episode 70 – Where Colin pranks Shreya and then Colin claims his time is worth $1,000/hr.
Ok. Let’s actually go through this thought experiment: Let’s say that you, at minimum, go to and from work on your bike. And it requires 2 minutes per day to lock your bike. That means a minimum of 10 minutes per week. This translates to 520 minutes per year, minimum, and 520 trips minimum per year, equaling ~$8,667 in savings
So, if this guy’s statistic is correct, then his bike would get stolen once a year. You are looking at at least $1,000 for a new bike, so that means you are spending at least $1,000 per year on a bike by “saving” $7,667. This sounds okay.
However, to get the new bike bought, outfitted, and fitted properly, you are going to spend at least 2 hours. So, that’s an additional $2,000. Plus, the time it takes you to now Uber (or walk) home is some additional time. So, in total, you are spending at least $3,500. This nets out to ~$5,100 in savings.
So, maybe this guy’s math works out but that doesn’t change the fact that he’s coming off as an arrogant douche.
